FINANCIAL IMPACT: The City received $56,250 in monetary sponsorships. RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends that the City Council recognize the sponsors and formally accept the contributions. Submitted By Reviewed By Parks and Community Services Director Assistant City Manager DESCRIPTION: The 2014 St. Patrick’s Day Celebration was held on Saturday, March 15 and Sunday, March 16 on the grounds of the Dublin Civic Center. Based on onsite sales and receipts for the two-day event, the attendance was estimated at 81,000, which would be a record-high attendance number which exceeded last year’s record attendance of 73,000. Survey responses from the community indicated overall satisfaction with the variety of vendors, entertainment and activities offered at the event. The biggest challenge, due to growth in the festival, was availability of parking. A key initiative for the 2015 event will be to identify methods of providing shuttles from neighborhoods or remote parking lots to better facilitate access to the event. Remote parking areas with shuttle service will also allow an increase in dedicated accessible parking spaces. ITEM NO. 3.6 Page 1 of 3 New features for the 2014 Celebration included a “Bike Valet” which, in coordination with the East Bay Bike Coalition, provided free bicycle check-in and parking for event attendees. Approximately 120 bicycles utilized the free parking at the event. th On Sunday, March 16, 2,400 runners participated in the 16 annual Shamrock 5K Fun Run and Walk. The Shamrock 5K post-race activities and awards area featured a new “Health and Fitness Zone” in which 11 local businesses related to health and fitness participated. The Fun Run received highly favorable comments regarding the overall race and post-race experience. Looking forward to 2015, the Fun Run will evaluate the location of the post-race activities to be in the most favorable location for the transition of the runners from the race course to the festival. Both the Festival and the Fun Run were generously supported by local businesses and organizations. The City received $56,250 in monetary sponsorships for the weekend. The City also received support of in-kind donations of goods and services. A list of the monetary and in- kind sponsors is shown below.
