Formally accept contribution from Dublin Senior Foundation and direct Staff to prepare a formal acknowledgement. DESCRIPTION: In March 2003, the City Council authorized the purchase of a new van for the Dublin Senior Center. The van has been received by the City and has already been used for two day-trips. Additionally the City will begin offering transportation for Dublin residents to the monthly Special Luncheons and Bingo Dinners at the Dublin Senior Center. The purchase of the van was made possible by a variety of funding sources including: $3,500 $3,571 $5O,OOO Donation from the Dublin Senior Foundation Donations from the public and participants of the Human Race over the past 10-years City General Fund Monies The Dublin Senior Foundation is a non-profit organization that was formed in 1997. The purpose of the Foundation is to provide programs to promote the growth and development of the Dublin Senior Center; to provide seniors with the opportunity to participate in community services; to provide developmental funds for Senior Center events; and, to support programs that meet the unmet needs of area seniors. The means by which the Foundation raises fimds includes sponsoring fundraising events, securing grants, providing workers for community events, operating a fireworks booth, and receiving private donations and memorial gifts. In addition to providing funding for the van, the Foundation has made many donations to the Senior center in the past,including equipment such as coffee makers, kitchen equipment, a bingo machine and display board to mention a few. The Foundation also regularly provides funding to sponsor Senior Center events and entertainment. The donation made by the Dublin Senior Foundation for the van has helped the City to provide a valuable resource to further meet the needs of residents who are seniors. RECOMMENDATION: Receive the repOrt, formally accept the contribution from Dublin Senior Foundation and direct Staff to prepare a formal acknowledgement.
