Foss, Acting City Manager SUBJECT: St. Patrick’s Day Celebration Prepared by Ann Mottola, Heritage and Cultural Arts Manager EXECUTIVE SUMMARY: The City Council will receive a report on the festivities planned for the 31st Annual St. Patrick’s Day Celebration that will be held March 14 to 16, 2014. FINANCIAL IMPACT: None RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends that City Council receive the report. Submitted By Reviewed By Parks and Community Services Director Acting Assistant City Manager DESCRIPTION: The community of Dublin has a weekend of good, green fun planned in celebration of St. Patrick’s Day. Green and White Gala Festivities begin on Friday, March 14, with the annual hosted by the Dublin Sister City Association. The event will take place at the Shannon Community Center and welcomes guests and dignitaries from sister city, Bray, Ireland visiting Dublin for the weekend’s events. “Irish Happy Hour” will commence at 6:00 p.m. with a no-host bar, followed by dinner at 7:00 p.m. Tickets are $65 per person and must be purchased in advance at www.brownpapertickets.com/event/564606. On Saturday, March 15, Fire Station #16, located at Donohue Drive and Amador Valley Boulevard will be serving up stacks of hot “green” pancakes served fresh off the griddle at the Annual Firefighter’s Pancake Breakfast . Breakfast will include pancakes, eggs, sausage, juice and coffee and will be served beginning at 7:00 a.m. Tickets can be purchased at the door ITEM NO. 3.5 Page 1 of 2 for $5 per person. All proceeds will benefit the Alameda County Firefighter’s Association-Local 55 Charity Fund, which supports local non-profit and community-based organizations. 31st Annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade Also on Saturday, March 15, the sponsored by the Dublin Lions Club will step-off promptly at 9:30 a.m. onto Dublin Blvd. from Amador Plaza Road. Parade-goers are encouraged to find the perfect viewing spot along Amador Valley Boulevard or Village Parkway. They may also take a seat in the parade grandstand located at 7400 Amador Valley Boulevard. The 80 parade entries feature marching bands, festive floats, bagpipes and equestrian riders. 31st Annual St. Patrick’s Day Festival The takes place on Saturday and Sunday, March 15 and 16, from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., at the Dublin Civic Center, 100 Civic Plaza. This year’s event includes two stages of Celtic music featuring a line-up of bagpipes, high-energy Celtic rock, traditional Irish folk music and Celtic Harp. A third stage will feature all Irish dancing with the McGrath Irish Dancers on Saturday and the McBride School of Irish Dance on Sunday. The Arts & Crafts fair will showcase more than 250 talented artisans, and feature an “Irish Marketplace,” offering Irish tartans, hand knit wool sweaters, beautiful Celtic jewelry, Irish coats of arms, histories of Celtic names and delectable flavored shortbreads. The Celtic Food Court will be serving traditional Irish favorites such as corned beef on Irish soda bread, beer braised Irish bangers with boxty and sautéed cabbage and, of course, fish and chips. There will also be unique Irish inspired specialties such as Guinness marinated tri-tip, corned beef sliders with spicy cabbage slaw and, new this year, Irish Egg Rolls with corned beef, cabbage, pepper jack cheese and horseradish sauce. The Irish Tea Cottage will offer a wee bit of Ireland. This attraction hosts lively music along with a steaming cup of authentic Irish Tea served in genuine china cups along with your choice of shortbread and scones. There will also be a carnival with rides and attractions for all ages. Festival admission is free. Parking will be available nearby. Visitors are also encouraged to take BART to the Dublin-Pleasanton BART Station (Eastern Transit Center) and connect with a free Whees pass available at the station during the weekend of the event. 16th Annual Shamrock 5K Fun Run and On Sunday, March 16, the day will begin with the Walk . The race begins along Dublin Blvd. near the Civic Center at 8:30 a.m. and winds its way Health and Fitness Zone through town finishing at the complete with live music, awards and giveaways for participants.
