Submitted By Reviewed By Parks and Community Services Director Acting Assistant City Manager DESCRIPTION: The Parks and Community Services Department received a request from Dublin Little League (DLL) to reconfigure Dublin Sports Grounds (DSG) Softball Field #2 to a 50/70 Intermediate Baseball Field. Little League International introduced a new division in 2013 called the Intermediate Division, which requires specific baseball field dimensions. The Intermediate Field dimensions differs from the standard Little League field dimensions in that the mound is 50 feet from home plate and the length of the paths between bases are 70 feet. The objective of the Intermediate Division is to allow youth to begin the transition from a 60-foot baseball field to a 70-foot field before moving to an 80 or 90-foot field configuration. Along these same lines, Little League International introduced an 80-foot field a few years ago, which the City entered into a partnership with Dublin Little League to renovate Field B at Emerald Glen. ITEM NO. 3.5 Page 1 of 2 Dublin Sports Grounds Field #2 was selected due to its location. Field #2 is only regularly scheduled by DLL and is no longer programmed for adult softball as those games are most often played at the Fallon Sports Complex. In addition, the Dublin Sports Grounds has one other softball field and four other 60-foot baseball diamonds that can be utilized for games. The project components included removing sections of outfield grass and replacing with infield dirt, adding new bases pegs while removing old ones, and modifying the pitcher’s mound and installing a new pitcher’s plate. The City worked with MCE to manage and complete the project. The field work was completed during the annual maintenance and was opened in February 2014 for Dublin Little League practices. MCE has successfully partnered with the City on completing several other improvement projects and this year the 50/70 Field renovation was selected. NOTICING REQUIREMENTS/PUBLIC OUTREACH: Request for attendance and recognition was given to MCE and notification was given to Dublin Little League and the Parks and Community Services Commission for information.
