HomeMy WebLinkAbout3.2 Library Week Proc STAFF REPORT CITY CLERK File #610-50 CITY COUNCIL DATE:April 2, 2013 TO: Honorable Mayor and City Councilmembers FROM: Joni Pattillo, City Manager SUBJECT: National Library Week Proclamation Prepared by Paul McCreary, Parks and Community Services Director EXECUTIVE SUMMARY: The City Council will present Library Manager, Lee Jouthas, with a Proclamation in recognition of National Library Week, which is April 14 to 20, 2013. FINANCIAL IMPACT: None. RECOMMENDATION: Receive report and present the proclamation for National Library Week. Submitted By Reviewed By Director of Parks and Assistant City Manager Community Services DESCRIPTION: Library Manager Lee Jouthas will present a brief report updating the City Council about usage of the Dublin Library as well as new programs and services. This year the Dublin Library is celebrating the ten-year anniversary at the Civic Center location. An Open House is scheduled for April 13, 2013. During April 2013, the Library is also offering a ‘one city, one book’ program entitled, “Dublin Reads.” NOTICING REQUIREMENTS/PUBLIC OUTREACH: None. ATTACHMENTS: 1. Proclamation ITEM NO. 3.2 Page 1 of 1 A PROCLAMATION OF THE CITY COUNCIL CITY OF DUBLIN, CALIFORNIA “National Library Week – April 14 – 20, 2013” WHEREAS , our nation’s school, academic, public and special libraries make a difference in the lives of millions of Americans, today, more than ever; WHEREAS , librarians are trained professionals, helping people of all ages and backgrounds find and interpret the st information they need to live, learn and work in the 21 century; WHEREAS , libraries are part of the American Dream – places for opportunity, education, self-help and lifelong learning; WHEREAS , libraries play a vital role in supporting the quality of life in their communities; WHEREAS , libraries are a key player in the national discourse on intellectual freedom, equity of access, and narrowing the “digital divide;” WHEREAS , the City of Dublin is commemorating the ten-year anniversary of the Dublin Library at its’ Civic Center location with an open house event scheduled for April 13, 2013; WHEREAS , libraries, librarians, library workers and supporters across America are celebrating the National Library Week theme, Communities Matter @ Your Library; THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that he Dublin City Council does hereby proclaim April 14 – 20, 2013 as National Library Week and encourages all residents to visit the library this week to take advantage of the wonderful resources available at your Dublin Library.
