Reviewed By Assistant City Manager DESCRIPTION: The City Council will present a proclamation for American Red Cross Month, recognizing those who support the Red Cross in helping people in need within the community, across the country and around the world through donation of time, money and /or blood. Proclamation Page 1 of 1 ITEM NO. 3.2 C17T OFDUBLIZV CALIFORNIA "American Red Cross Month — March 2or3" WHEREAS, during American Red Cross Month, we thank those who contribute to the mission of the Red Cross, whether through time, money or blood, and we invite others to support the Red Cross in helping people in need down the street, across the country and around the world; and WHEREAS, throughout the past year, the American Red Cross launched hundreds of disaster relief operations in the United States to help people affected by fires, floods, hurricanes and tornadoes. The American Red Cross Bay Area Chapter also deployed more than Soo disaster works to the relief effort following Superstorm Sandy, which is the most deployments sent from a non - affected region; and WHEREAS, the American Red Cross Bay Area Chapter helped over i.,o66 people with temporary housing, clothing, food and mental health counseling during 392 local disasters; trained over 5o,843 people in lifesaving CPR, First Aid, and water safety and preparedness education; provided emergency communications, counseling, financial assistance and a caring presence to over 77o local military families; and supported 28 Bay Area hospitals, providing them with nearly 158,717 units of red cells, platelets and plasma; and WHEREAS, for nearly ioo years, United States Presidents have called on the American people to support the Red Cross and its humanitarian mission. Our community depends on the American Red Cross and because it is not a government agency, the Red Cross depends on support from the public to continue its humanitarian work, especially important in these challenging economic times. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that we, the Dublin City Council, do hereby proclaim March 20r3 as American Red Cross Month in Dublin and encourages all residents to be cognizant of the compassion, courage, character, civic duty that is inherent in the Red Cross mission to prevent and relieve human suffering.
