Recognition of Dublin Green Gator Swim Team Parent Committee.

DESCRIPTION: Each summer the City sponsors the Green Gator Swim Team
program at the Dublin Swim Center. The team participates in the Tri-Valley Swim League and is made
up of 135 swimmers ranging in age from 4 to 18 years of age. The Green Gator Parent Committee is
made up of parents who have swimmers on the team. The committee was formed in the summer of 1993
and has been raising funds each year to enhance the Swim Team Program. The Committee also has
provided countless hours assisting the coaches with the operation of the program by scheduling volunteers
for meets, coordinating incentive programs to encourage personal goal achievement, coordinating team
suit and apparel orders, and organizing team socials.
During the past two years the Swim Team Parent Committee has raised over $10,000 for the team. A
majority of the funds have been raised through a Swim-a-Thon sponsored by the committee. These funds
have been used to purchase a new starting system, a display case for team records and flyers, canopies for
swim .meets, walkie-talkies for better meet management, coaches uniforms, training equipment and end of
the season medals and awards. By providing these extras for the team the parent committee is not only
improving team morale, they are also helping to keep the registration fees low for the program. In a recent
survey of swim team parents, several respondents noted that the swim team program is the best "sports
value" for youth in Dublin.
All youth sports programs require parent participation to be successful. This is especially true for
swimming since it requires over 35 volunteers just to operate a swim meet. Therefore, the. City would like
to recognize the 2000 Green Gator Parent Committee members with certificates of appreciation for their
efforts to make the Green Gator Swim Team an outstanding program for the community.
