Staff has been working with the St. Patrick's Day Liaison Committee and local community groups to make preparations for this year's events. Following is information regarding each of the events. Green & ~Yhite Gala Dinner The Dublin Sister City Association is planning their annual Green and White Gala for Friday, March 14. This event will be held at Chef's Touch Catering. An Irish Happy Hour will begin at 6:30 P.M. and dinner at 7:30 P.M. Entertainment and dancing will follow dinner. Pancake Breakfast The Alameda County Firefighters Local 55 will be hosting the Annual Community Pancake Breakfast prior to the St. Patrick's Day Parade on Saturday, March 15, from 7:30 A.M. to 10:00 A.M. The event will be held at Fire Station No. 16 on Donohue Drive. Last year over 1,000 breakfasts were served. The donation for adults is $3.00 and $2.00 for seniors and children. Proceeds from the breakfast will benefit a burn foundation. Parade The annual St. Patrick's Day Parade sponsored by the Dublin Lions Club will begin at 9:30 A.M. on Saturday, March 15. The route will be the same as in previous years. Channel 30 will be taping the parade from the reviewing stands, which will be located on Amador Valley Boulevard, next to the pizza restaurant. According to the parade organizers they have numerous bands and floats entered in this year's parade, which should be the largest in the City's 20-year history. COPIES TO: st. G:\COUNCIL\Agenda Statements\2003\3-4 Stpats update.doc /~ Festival The 20th Annual St. Patrick's Day Festival will be held March 15 & 16, 2003, on Amador Valley Boulevard between Regional Street and Starward Drive. The festival will feature over 160 artisans and crafters; food and beverage cafes featuring over 16 restaurants; three stages for Celtic music, Irish dancing, and local community performers; and children's carnival games and rides. Recruiting for artists and commercial vendors began in the fall. A mailing was done to all vendors who participated in the festival last year. Six weeks prior to the event a road closure notification was mailed to all of the businesses and residences affected by the Festival and Fun Run. The mailing to the downtown businesses also included an application to reserve a space at the Festival. The deadline for artist and vendor applications was February 14, 2003. The Main Stage and Entertainment Pavilion located in the former library parking lot will feature Celtic music. Culann's Hounds and Wake the Dead are two of the well-known bands playing on Saturday. Fiddler's Fancy and Outgrabe will join Culann's Hounds on Sunday. Festival-goers can listen to the music while enjoying traditional corned beef, rotisserie chicken, sausage sandwiches, a big bag of Kettle Korn or a Philly cheese steak topped off with a chocolate dipped strawberry. The Irish Dance Stage led by McGrath School of Irish Dance will include dance performances and interactive crowd instructions. The festival will also include a Community Stage featuring magic shows, dog demonstrations and martial arts demonstrations. Tales of the Seven Seas, a pirate re-enactment group featuring an Irish pirate queen in full 1500's regalia will be roaming throughout the festival, as will Dana Smith and His Performing Dog Lacey and Crackers the Clown. A new sponsor of the event this year is Foster Farms, who will be setting up their "chicken" trailer complete with the well-known "Foster Farms Chickens" of television commercial fame. Fun Run The 5th annual Shamrock 5K Fun Run & Walk will be held on Sunday, March 16, 2003, beginning at 8:30 A.M. The run will start and finish at the Shamrock Village Shopping Center. Check-in and race day registration will be held in the parking lot in front of World of Shoes. Activities and entertainment will be held in this area before and after the race. The City produced 9,000 registration forms that were distributed at all of the elementary schools in Dublin and mailed to over 3,000 runners in the Th-Valley area. Additionally the race will be advertised in the Tri-Valley Herald and the Runners Schedule, which is Northern California's Largest Running Magazine and website. Major sponsors for the Fun Run include World of Shoes, Select Imaging, Pacific Care, the Th-Valley Herald, NBCll, Alameda County Fire Fighters Local 55, and Alameda County Deputy Sheriff's Association. Marketing NBC11 is the television sponsor for the event. They will be producing and airing 40 commercials prior to the event. In addition they are entering a float in the parade that will be carrying on-air talent as well as representatives from the Kaleidoscope Activity Center of Dublin. NBC11 also plans to provide news coverage about St. Patrick's Day in Dublin. ANG Newspapers is the official newspaper sponsor for the festival and will be producing a tab section for the event, which will be distributed to subscribers in Dublin, Pleasanton, Livermore, San Ramon and Danville. In addition to the tab section, there will also be large advertisements in all of the ANG Newspapers including ~the Tri-Valley Herald, San Ramon Valley Herald, Oakland Tribune, The Argus, The Daily Review, and the Alameda Times-Star. Advertising has also been placed in the Contra Costa Newspapers. KKIQ is the official radio sponsors for the festival. ': ~ Page 2 of 3 Large ads will be published in February and March in the Irish Herald, Northern California's largest Irish newspaper. In addition, Diablo Magazine will feature the festival in its Top Ten Bay Area Events for March. The event will be featured prominently on NBC11, on KPIX-TV (CBS) "Evening Magazine", "Weekend Roundup' and the Live Morning News on KRON-TV, as well as the Live Morning .News on KTVU-TV (Fox) and "What's Hot" on KGO-TV (ABC).
