DESCRIPTION: As approved in the 2002-2007 Capital Improvement Program, design of the 4.8-acre Neighborhood Park in Dublin Ranch Area G will begin in Fiscal Year 2002-2003 and construction will be complete in Fiscal Year 2003-2004. In order to proceed with the park design, on October 15, 2002 the City Council authorized an Agreement with Royston Hanamoto Alley and Abey for landscape architectural services. After a series of public meetings, on December 16th, 2002 the Parks and Community Services Commission recommended City Council approval of the Area G park preferred conceptual design. At the subsequent City Council meeting on January 7th, 2003 the preferred conceptual design was approved. At that time Council directed Staff to investigate the following: 1) Alternative materials other than concrete for the circular path. 2) Additional picnic tables within the design. 3) Option of water and benches in the Dog Run Area. 4) Improve the ability to view the two play areas from one vantage point. On February 10th, 2003 the Parks and Community Services Commission reviewed and recommended that City Council approve the design development plan for Area G - Park Site. A representative from the landscape architectural firm of Royston Hanamoto Alley and Abey along with Staff will present recommendations. It should be noted that the preliminary cost estimates for the Area G Park based on the preferred conceptual design exceed the identified project budget by $112,982. During the development of construction documents for the project, Staff and the Consultants will continue to refine the scope of work to identify potential cost savings that can be achieved without compromising the project design. In the event that sufficient cost savings cannot be achieved, Staff will return to the Council with recommended design modifications. PARK NAME The City of Dublin does not have an adopted naming policy for City facilities. However, general guidelines to be considered are as follows: · Name reflects the geographic location of the facility (neighborhood, major street, regional area of the City) · Name reflects a prominent form of topography, or a prominent plant, bush or tree · Name reflects the history of the facility (family name of the builder, developer, or person who donated land) · Name recognizes a significant contributor to the advancement of the City (former Mayor, Councilmember, Board/Commission Member, etc.) The Dublin Ranch Area G Neighborhood Park is located in what is called the "Town Center" area of the Dublin Ranch Development in Eastern Dublin. Maguire Way, Keegan Way and Finnian Way border the 4.8-acre park. The adjacent residential developments are named the Dublin Ranch Villages (the Cottages, the Courtyards, the Villas and the Terraces). Input for park names has been solicited from the park designer, the developer of the adjacent residential units, City Staff and from a questionnaire at the Dublin Ranch sales office.
