Confirm Mayor's appointment of Steven Jones to the Parks & Community Services Commission to fill the unexpired term (December, 2004) of Betsy Zajac who recently resigned. FINANCIAL STATEMENT: None DESCRIPTION: The City was recently notified that effective February 15~ 2003, Parks & Community Services Commissioner Betsy Zajac would be moving out of the City of Dublin. The Mayor has appointed Steven Jones to fill the unexpired portion of Ms. Zajac's term, which ends in December of 2004. Staff recommends that the City Council confLrm the Mayor's appointment of Steven Jones to the Parks & Community Services Commission. I have worked at the high school for the past 9 years and, feel its time to do something City wide. (2) I have worked closely wSth the parks & Community Service Commission on many differem projects, involving DuBlin High School and the Driblin Lions Club. t have had to work with the city in the'rental of facilities for activities for both of these' organizxtiom. (3) Living in Dublin for over 25 years'my children have participated in differer~t programs, from the pre school program to youth, sports pr0~ams. My' daughter took a class.on babT. s.iC.~:.M~ son worked for the city as a c~mp coanse~or~. !. have worked on the tree lighting Ceremony, and many city sponSOred events with the Dublin Lions club. We have hlso used some of the city buildings for different family events. (4) With the cky growing in the last few years, we will always need more parks and ~ different programs to fit our city needs, for example a new pooL. lighted basketball courts, new senior center, baseball fields and a general sports grounds. (5) t do not have any problem charging fees for programs and parks as long the city is not making a profit frOm the publiC. (6) This is very hard thing to do; you have to listen to every, one on the project and get ali the facts and try to make the best decision for the good of our city and the people that live ~ our city. (7) Being in sales for the'past 20 years has taught, me to listen to people's problems and try to come up with a solution to make everyone happy. I've lived in Dublin for the past 35 years and belonged to many different organizations in the cky. I have an understanding how both sides work, and this will help me make good decisions for the city and the people: in our cky.
