FINANCIAL STATEMENT: Funds for the Saturday Events are included in the FY 2011-2012
budget.
DESCRIPTION: On January 13, 2011, Staff presented a report to the Heritage and
Cultural Arts Commission outlining a Cultural Arts Work Plan for the upcoming Fiscal Year 2011-2012.
As part of the report, Staff indicated that only a few changes were anticipated to the existing Department
service level and work plan for Fiscal Year 2011-2012. One of the key changes proposed was to offer
monthly events on Saturdays at the Heritage Park & Museums.
With the anticipated completion of the Heritage Park & Museums in June, Staff proposes to enhance
cultural arts and heritage programming by offering monthly events and activities on Saturdays as a way of
showcasing the new Kolb buildings and grounds. The specific details of all the events and activities are
listed in Attachment 1. The main focus of the programs will be family events with a few adult themed
events mixed in throughout the year. These events will replace the monthly workshops that have been
offered in the past. The monthly programs will be introduced during the Grand Opening of the Heritage
Park & Museums on July 2, 2011. The monthly events will commence in August with a Family Movie
Night and continue to be offered every month until June 2012. The registration fees charged for these
programs will partially recover the direct and indirect costs of the programs. US Bank, located on the
grounds of the Heritage Park & Museums, has agreed to provide a Fifteen Hundred Dollar ($1,500)
sponsorship to help offset the program costs.
RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends that the Heritage and Cultural Arts Commission
receive the report.
