DESCRIPTION: Tammy Goldstein, Dublin Relay for Life Event-Chair, has requested the City of Dublin approve the placement of purple bows on Dublin streets to promote the Relay for Life community event which will take place May 14-15, 2011, at Wells Middle School. Relay for Life is an event, in association with the American Cancer Society, that gives communities a chance to celebrate the lives of people who have battled cancer, remember loved ones lost, and fight back against the disease. This is the fifth year this request has been made and if the City Council concurs with this request for the placement of Purple Ribbons, Dublin Relay for Life Event volunteers would once again organize the placement and removal of the ribbons on City trees and poles along Dublin Boulevard and Village Parkway, May 1-7, 2011. Ribbons will only be placed on City trees and poles along the street sidewalks and not be placed on the street median trees or control devices (i.e. stop signs, directional signs and cross walk signs). Dublin, CA Relay for Life "Paint Your Town Purple" Event Good afternoon Ms. Soto, As Dublin's Relay for Life event chair, I'm contacting you to ask for your assistance in getting the word out to our community about this event. In order to do this, we would like to host a "Paint your Town Purple" event from May 1-7, 2011, to build awareness and gain support from the community by sharing the "Power of Purple". All Relay participants know the true Power of Purple. They have seen lives changed when they attend Relay for Life for the first time and feel the sense of victory when those who have battled or are currently battling cancer walk the Survivor Lap. You never forget the emotion of placing a luminaria bag around the track for someone you love whether it is in honor of their fight or in remembrance of a battle lost to this horrible disease. Participants leave the event knowing they have contributed to the fight and "Finding a Cure". Participants also want to share their experience at Relay for Life and all that the American Cancer Society has to offer with others in their community. This is why we would like to invite the City of Dublin to join other cities and communities both large and small across America in painting their towns purple to share the Power of Purple and bring awareness to the meaning of our Relay for Life event which will take place May 14 through May 15 at Wells Middle School. Dublin schools, local workplaces, or virtually any place where people gather can be a place to invite others to take up the fight. We are asking the City of Dublin to consider granting "Relay for Life" of Dublin a Proclamation supporting our upcoming Paint Your Town Purple event and approval to place purple bows along Dublin Boulevard and Village Parkway. .
