Acceptance of Charitable Donation from Anthony, Angie and Lauren Bilich Prepared By: Nick Soares, Sergeant Dublin Police Services 141up EXECUTIVE SUMMARY: Dublin Police Services' Crime Prevention Unit was given a generous donation from Anthony, Angie and Lauren Bilich. The donation amount of $500 will be used for costs associated with producing an age -appropriate music video to reach Dublin school children with an anti -drug message. The Dublin City Council will present the Bilich family with a Certificate of Appreciation for their donation. FINANCIAL IMPACT: The Billich Family donated funds to the City which will be used to produce anti -drug education materials. A budget change in the amount of $500 will record the unbudgeted donation as well as the offsetting expense in the current year budget. RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends that the City Council accept the $500 donation, approve the Budget Change and formally recognize the donor. Submitted By Reviewed By RevieVeBy Chief of Police Administrative Services Director Assistant Canager DESCRIPTION: On Thursday, December 30, 2010, the Bilich family delivered a check to Dublin Police Services in the amount of $500 as a donation for use in children's education (Attachment 1). Page 1 of 2 ITEM NO. 3.3 Currently the Dublin Police Crime Prevention Unit offers drug education classes to Dublin elementary, middle, and high school students. The funds will be used in creating an original music video teaching tool to provide a fresh approach to drug education to the children enrolled in Dublin public and private schools. The message would be conveyed in a music video presented to our target audience first in school settings followed by students sharing the music and video images through their own information conduits. By using their medium and their words to create a product, the true face of oxycontin and prescription drug abuse is exposed. The City Council will need to approve the proposed Budget Change (Attachment 2) to accept the funds and appropriate the funds for use in FY 2010-11. NOTICING REQUIREMENTS/PUBLIC OUTREACH: No public outreach is required regarding this donation. ATTACHMENTS: 1. Letter from Bilich family 2.
