DESCRIPTION: One of the 2009-2010 Goals & Objectives adopted by the City
Council is to "Implement a self study and peer review for the Phase II Museum Assessment Program
(MAP) Public Dimension Assessment for the Dublin Heritage Center
In 2008, Staff applied for and received a Public Dimension Assessment MAP Phase II grant for the
Dublin Heritage Center. The ivluseum Assessment Program (MAP) is a confidential, consultative
process, designed to help museums understand how they compare to standards and best practices in the
field. MAP helps museums understand how other institutions deal with similar challenges. MAP
provides suggestions for improvement. There are three stages to each of the four two-year long
assessments: Self-Study, Peer Review and Implementation.
This is the second MAP that the Dublin Heritage Center has participated in, having completed a MAP
"Institutional Assessment" Phase I in 2006. For this round, the Public Dimension Assessment - Phase II
assesses the public's perception, experience, and involvement with the museum.
Staff completed the Phase II self-study portion of the MAP in early 2009 and selected consultant Nancy
Bryk as peer reviewer. Ms. Bryk is the Director of Education and Public Programs at Ann Arbor Hands-
On Museum. Ms. Byrk evaluated the self-study materials and on November 22-25, 2009 visited the
Heritage Center. Following her visit, Ms. Bryk submitted a thorough report of her findings; the report
was subsequently presented to the Heritage and Cultural Arts Commission in March 2010.
The table in Attachment 1 includes the consultant recommendations, staff's ranking and comments, and
the estimated costs. The table is intended to engage the Heritage and Cultural Arts Commission in a
dialogue to gauge the Commission's interest in pursing the items and to rank each item in terms of
priority. This will allow staff to move on to the implementation part of the Phase II recommendations.

receive the report and provide a ranking of high, medium or low to the recommendations of the
consultant.
