HomeMy WebLinkAbout4 Draft 03-11-2010 HCAC Minutes CITY OF DUBLIN HERITAGE AND CULTURAL ARTS COMMISSION Draft Minutes March 11, 2010 The March 11, 2010 meeting of the Heritage and Cultural Arts Commission was called to order at 7:00 p.m. at the Dublin Civic Center, Dublin, California, by Chair Minniear. PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE Chair Minniear led the Pledge of Allegiance. ROLL CALL Commissioners (Cm.) Present: Minniear, Nuckols, Carr, Halket, Mack, Tutino, Vonheeder-Leopold Commissioners Absent: None ORAL COMMUNICATIONS - None APPROVAL OF MINUTES On a motion by Cm. Vonheeder-Leopold, seconded by Cm. Mack, and by a vote of 6-0-1 with Cm. Halket abstaining, the Commission voted to approve the minutes of January 14, 2010 as presented. Cm. Halket abstained from the vote due to her absence during the January 14, 2010 meeting. WRITTEN COMMUNICATIONS - None PUBLIC HEARING - None UNFINISHED BUSINESS 7.1 MUSEUM ASSESSMENT PROGRAM PHASE II - UPDATE Ms. Elizabeth Isles, Heritage Center Director, presented the specifics of the item as outlined in the Staff Report. Cm. Vonheeder-Leopold stated that she was pleased with the Museum Assessment Program (MAP) report. She stated that Staff should review the report's recommendations and discuss the opportunities for implementing the recommendations. Mr. John Hartnett, Heritage and Cultural Arts Manager, stated that given the City's current budget deficit, Staff would review the recommendations and bring a report to the Commission on the key recommendations that could be accomplished within the City's current resources. Cm. Tutino stated that she was also pleased with the MAP report. She stated that she would like to see the recommendations prioritized according to the items that would not have a fiscal impact. She further stated that the east-west divide in Dublin was mentioned often in the MAP report and that the City should also try to address this issue within the framework of the MAP recommendations. Chair Minniear stated that the MAP report points out Staff's great accomplishments up to this point and that Staff should consider how to further leverage its resources in order to serve the entire community, including the consideration of a presence in eastern Dublin. Draft H&CAC Meeting - March 11, 2010 NEW BUSINESS 8.1 POET LAUREATE / CITY HISTORIAN RECRUITMENT Mr. John Hartnett, Heritage and Cultural Arts Manager, presented the specifics of the item as outlined in the Staff Report. Vice Chair Nuckols asked if the current Poet Laureate has a compilation of the work she has accomplished over the past two years. Mr. Hartnett stated that a compilation of her work would be provided at the end of her term and that some of her poems have been posted on the Poet Laureate City website. Cm. Vonheeder-Leopold asked if the terms of the Poet Laureate and City Historian could be changed to coincide with fixed dates, such as the fiscal year. Mr. Hartnett stated that he would look into the possibility of amending the term dates. 9.1 OTHER BUSINESS . Cm. Tutino reported that she presented the third grade Local History Curriculum Packet to the School Board. Cm. Vonheeder-Leopold provided an update on the status of the History Center at Camp Parks. Chair Minniear proposed that the Oral History working group should meet in the near future to discuss their next steps. Cm. Carr thanked Ms. Elizabeth Isles for providing a private tour of the Heritage Center to a guest speaker at a Dublin San Ramon Women's Club meeting. Cm. Mack reported that she attended the Senior Center Advisory Committee and Youth Advisory Committee Joint meeting held last month. Mr. Hartnett reminded the Commission of the St. Patrick's Day festivities being held March 13 - 14, 2010. Ms. Isles informed the Commission that the Heritage Center would be hosting a Tea Room and open microphone event being led by the City's Poet Laureate, Ronnie Holland, at the St. Patrick's Day Festival.
