HERITAGE AND CULTURAL ARTS COMMISSION Minutes CITY OF DUBLIN September 11, 2008 The September 11, 2008 meeting of the Heritage and Cultural Arts Commission was called to order at 7:03 p.m. at the Dublin Civic Center, Dublin, California, by Vice Chair Carr. PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE Vice Chair Carr led the Pledge of Allegiance. ROLL CALL Commissioners Present: Carr, Acuff, Vonheeder-Leopold, Halket, Mack, Lussie Commissioners Absent: Swalwell ORAL COMMUNICATIONS - None APPROVAL OF MINUTES - August 14, 2008 On a motion by Cm. Vonheeder-Leopold, seconded by Cm. Mack, and by a vote of 6-0-0, with Chair Swalwell absent, the Commission voted to approve the minutes of August 14, 2008 as presented. WRITTEN COMMUNICATIONS - None PUBLIC HEARING - None UNFINISHED BUSINESS - None NEW BUSINESS 8.1 Shannon Community Center - Public Art Modification Mr. John Hartnett, Heritage and Cultural Arts Manager, presented the specifics of the item as outlined in the Staff Report. Cm. Acuff stated that she was disappointed that the mosaic tiles could not be placed on the bridge, but that the mosaic tiles would look nice on the seat walls and the fountain. She asked about the material that would be placed on the bridge. Mr. Hartnett stated that the bridge would be reconstructed with slate tile. Cm. Lussie stated that she was glad to see the full mosaic tile design along the seating wall. Cm. Mack asked how the mosaic tile design would be placed along the seating wall. Mr. Hartnett explained that the decoration would be placed along the complete area of the sides and the tops of the seating walls and that the swirling design would be incorparated. 8.2 Summer 2008 Quarterly Report Mr. John Hartnett, Heritage and Cultural Arts Manager, presented the specifics of the item as outlined in the Staff Report. H&C/ ' Minutes Draft — September 11, 2008 Page 2 of 2 Cm. Acuff asked if there were any plans to hold events at St. Raymond's Church. Mr. Hartnett stated that there are plans to hold events at St. Raymond's Church in January and February 2009. Cm. Lussie asked if the City's events are outgrowing St. Raymond's Church. Mr. Hartnett stated that it depends on the type of event and whether it is conducive to the size of St. Raymond's Church. Cm. Mack suggested inviting dance class participants to dance at some of the concerts sponsored by the City. Cm. Acuff suggested offering film classes given the recent popularity of making films. Mr. Hartnett stated that he would keep film classes on his radar for future programming. OTHER BUSINESS 9.1 Brief INFORMATIONAL ONLY Reports from Heritage and Cultural Arts Commissioners and/or Staff Cm. Acuff reported that she attended a film festival in Dublin. Mr. Hartnett distributed the Heritage Center Newsletter and reminded the Commission of the last Family Movie Night of the year being held on September 12, 2008.
