HomeMy WebLinkAboutReso 032-82 PG&E ZipUpSaveDay RESOLUTION NO. 32-82 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DUBLIN RESOLUTION DECLARING "ZIP UP AND SAVE DAY" WHEREAS, world energy sources are limited and the costs of oil and natural gas continue to rise; and, WHEREAS, to encourage energy conservation, P.G.&E. is offering interest- free loans for energy-saving home improvements to homeowners, landlords, and renters, through ZIP, the Zero Interest Program; and, WHEREAS, these home improvements can help residents control energy costs, reduce energy consumption, and increase family comfort; and, WHEREAS, ZIP home energy conservation measures could save 14.5 billion kilowatt hours of electricity and 6.1 billion therms of natural gas -- (enough electricity to serve 1.3 million residences for two years and enough gas tO serve 3.5 million customers for two years); and, WHEREAS, P.G.&E. is making special efforts to inform senior citizens, non-english speaking customers, landlords, and renters about the benefits of ZIP: and, WHEREAS, P.G.&.E. in cooperation with local community groups is sponsoring a ZIP Energy Tour to raise local residents' awareness of the need to conserve energy and encourage participation in this money- saving program; and, WHEREAS, City Councils have a critical leadership role in encour- aging energy conservation; THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City of Dublin hereby endorses and supports the objectives and goals of the Zero interest Program and urges the citizens of this City to take advantage of P.G.&.E's ZIP loans to save money and energy; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT the City of Dublin declares July 22, 1982 ZIP UP AND SAVE DAY and urges local residents to participate in the energy tour of a weatherized home in the San Lorenzo neighborhood on that day.
