None DESCRIPTION: The 26t" Annual St. Patrick's Day Celebration is scheduled for the weekend of March 14 and 15, 2009. Staff is seeking input from the City Council on the preferred option for the 2009 Festival Poster. In past years, the poster has featured a variety of designs, ranging from the whimsical to actual event photos placed within a large shamrock. Last year's poster design included a darkened silhouette of a leprechaun along with a rainbow and pot of gold. For the 2009 poster, three poster options have been developed for consideration by the City Council (Options A-C). The poster options are attached and are conceptual in nature. • Poster Option A (Attachment 1) highlights Ireland's traditional flag with a shamrock foremost within the artwork. Additional event information and sponsor logos would be added within the orange and green stripes and middle white area at the bottom. • Poster Option B (Attachment 2) has a character leprechaun holding a violin with colorful block lettering. Additional event information and sponsor logos would be added below and to the left of the leprechaun. • Poster Option C (Attachment 3) is a cheerful, child's view of the festivities, complete with a funny green hat, freckles and a big smile. Additional event information and sponsor logos would be added on the bottom one third of the poster. ----------------------------------------------- COPY TO: Parks and Community Services Commission Page 1 of 2 G:\COUNCIL\Agenda Statemen[s\2008\12-16 St. Patrick's Day Festival Poster Artwork.doc ITEM NO. ~ • The Parks and Community Services Commission reviewed the artwork at its regular meeting in November. The Commission unanimously recommended Poster Option B as the preferred conceptual design with a few minor modifications that have been included in the attachment. Once the preferred option is chosen, the artist will finalize the sponsors, add specific event information and potentially make minor modifications to the layout and colors. Consequently, if the Council is in favor of one of the poster options but would like to see minor changes made to the layout, Staff will provide that direction to the artist. RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends that the City Council select the preferred artwork or provide Staff with alternate direction.
