None. Dublin Pride Week is an annual event that seeks to promote a positive image for the City of Dublin. The primary objective for Dublin Pride Week is to seek ways to engage individuals and/or groups in action-based activities to help improve the community. At the forefront of this effort is the Dublin Pride Week Committee. The Committee is made up of Councilmembers, City Staff and various community members and community organizations and comes together to plan and prepare the event. Councilmember participation is a key component of this committee and the ultimate success of Dublin Pride Week activities. Over the past few years, Dublin Pride Week has been held starting on the last Saturday in April and continuing through the first Saturday in May. The committee will decide whether to continue this schedule during its .meetings. Traditionally, Dublin Pride Week has had two Councilmembers appointed to its committee. In 2008, Mayor Tim Sbranti and Councilmember Kate Ann Scholz served as the City Council's representatives; however, their terms of service expire as of December 2008. As such, Staff requests that the appointment of two Councilmembers to this committee be deliberated and confirmed for a limited term beginning January 2009 and ending December 2009. At the current time, Pride Week Committee Meetings are tentatively scheduled to occur once a month on a Wednesday, and each meeting starts at 2:00 in the afternoon. Generally, this meeting schedule continues through the month of February. As Pride Week approaches, more frequent meetings become necessary. As a result, the Pride Week Committee meets on a bi-weekly basis beginning in March and continues in such a manner until Pride Week activities begin. Other meetings schedules can be set to meet the needs of committee members. The first meeting is tentatively scheduled for Wednesday, January 14, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- COPY TO: Page 1 of 2 ITEM NO. ~' F:\Council\Agenda Statements\2008-2009\as-Pride Week Appt.doc RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends that the City Council review and discuss two Councilmember appointments to the Dublin Pride Week Committee and confirm the appointments for the limited term of January 2009 through December 2009.
