Naming of Shannon Community Center Banquet Hall

Consider request of Mayor Lockhart to name the Banquet Hall after
retiring City Manager Richard C. Ambrose

DESCRIPTION: At the August 19, 2008 City Council meeting, Mayor Lockhart
requested that the naming of the Shannon Community Center Banquet Hall be placed on the agenda for the
September 2, 2008 meeting. Specifically, Mayor Lockhart wanted the City Council to consider naming the
hall after retiring City Manager Richard C. Ambrose.
The Banquet Hall in the new Shannon Community Center can accommodate up to 300 for dining. The
entry to the hall is off the main lobby of the Community Center and features two sets of entry doors
(Attachment 1). There is ample space above the doors to accommodate lettering with the name of the hall.
If it is the desire of the Council to name the hall, Staff recommends that the lettering be done in oil rubbed
bronze relief which is similar to the lettering used in the exterior signage of the Community Center. This
request may be accommodated within the Shannon Community Center project budget.
RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends that the City Council consider the request of Mayor
Lockhart to name the Banquet Hall after retiring City Manager Richard C. Ambrose.
