Foss, Economic Development Director ATTACHMENTS: 1. Letter from Livermore Valley Film Commission RECOMMENDATION: ;y~ I) Receive presentation, and 2) If the City Council is interested in supporting this request, direct Staff to include the request as a Higher Service Level in the Fiscal Year 2008-09 budget. FINANCIAL STATEMENT: Based on Staffs conversation with the Film Commission, the City will be requested to allocate $2,500 for Fiscal Year 2008-09 to support the Film Commission's efforts. DESCRIPTION: The Livermore Valley Film Commission (Dale Eldridge Kaye, Director) made a request that the City Council receive a presentation on the benefits of the Livermore Valley Film Commission and the Commission's desire to include the City of Dublin (see Attachment 1). Ms. Kaye believes that adding Dublin to the Livermore Valley Film Commission would broaden the library of possible filming locations and would make the area more desirable to production companies. If it is the desire of the Livermore Valley Film Commission to broaden the representation, Staff would suggest that the City Council ask the Commission to consider changing their name to better reflect the participants. If the City Council is interested in supporting this request, Staff would recommend that the City Council direct Staff to include the request as a Higher Service Level in the Fiscal Year 2008-09 budget. RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends that the City Council: 1) Receive the presentation and 2) If the City Council is interested in supporting this request, direct Staff to include the request as a Higher Service Level in the Fiscal Year 2008-09 budget. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- COpy TO: Dale Kaye, Director, Livermore Valley Film Commission ITEM NO. 5./ G:\Chris\Livermore Valley Film Commission\Agenda Statement May 6 200S.doc LIVERMORE CHAMBERoF COMMERCE t-( It <-( /-~. ri Ce-!/! 16 A t' iIi ~t '.:, Mayor Janet Lockhart City of Dublin 100 Civic Plaza Dublin, CA 94568 Dear M or o~j C,.i:,ECEIVEO 0/= DUaUN APR 11'2008 CITY AfANAGCR'S OfFIce Celebrate Enterprise I woul Ii to thank you and Chris Foss for taking the time to meet with Jeanie Haigh and me last week concerning the Livermore Valley Film Commission. We are very excited about expanding the sphere of the commission to include Dublin. 'j ~ ~ ; ., '1 ~ 'I.~ ~ As we discussed, filming can have a huge economic impact on a community. Productions pay location fees, rent equipment, purchase locally, plus crew and talent must be fed and housed. Even a small commercial has the potential to bring a lot of money to an area. Including Dublin in the Livermore Valley Film Commission will enable us to broaden our library of possible filming locations, making the area more desirable to production companies. Homes, parks, streets, offices and office buildings are all popular locations. Having a large number of resources in the area makes it more attractive for producers to film here. Time is money for them, and having easy access to what they need, plus the personal assistance they receive from the film commission office, has been luring them to this area. woul like to be put on the agenda for the Dublin City Council to advise them ofthe benefits of a film c mmission and our desire to expand in to Dublin.
