The contract portion of the project was slightly over budget;
however, the Capital Improvement Project in total was slightly under
budget.
The original bid for the contract was $18,327. At the beginning of
the painting, it became obvious that a single coat of paint would not
completely cover the dry, discolored face of the wall. Also,
approximately 20 concrete column wall caps were loose and had to
be re-mortared to the columns. A Change Order was negotiated in
the amount of $5,000 for a second coat of paint and the repair of the
caps.

DESCRIPTION: This project painted the street side of the Village Parkway
Soundwall along the west side of the street from Amador Valley Boulevard to Kimball Avenue (City
Limit), and along the east side of the street from just south of Wineberry Way north to the City Limit.
As part of the project, vines were removed from the face of the wall in order to access the wall for
painting.
It was discovered that some of the 2" by 10" column fascia boards on the east side of Village Parkway
were loose or had come off. As the painting contractor's license would not allow for this carpentry work
to be done, these repairs are being made through the City's contract maintenance forces.
The project is now complete, and Staff recommends that the City Council accept the improvements under
Contract No. 07-10, Village Parkway Soundwall Painting, and authorize the release of retention after 35
days if there are no subcontractor claims.
