FINANCIAL STATEMENT: There are adequate funds available for attendance at this Summit. DESCRIPTION: There is a request from Councilmember Hildenbrand to attend the upcoming Climate Innovation Summit in Albuquerque, New Mexico on May. 14-16, 2008. The intent of the Climate Innovation Summit is to bring together mayors and local elected officials, environmental policy leaders, and the business community who are leading climate and sustainability efforts on a local level. There is a special members-only offer to all ICLEI USA 2008 members of which the City of Dublin is a member. If registration occurs by March 28, 2008, domestic economy class airline tickets would be included in the price of registration. The registration fee is $525. The ICLEI organization is currently negotiating hotel rates for this event. The estimated cost for attendance at the Climate Innovation Summit would be approximately $1,500 per attendee, which includes registration, hotel, meals, incidentals, if the registration is completed by March 28, 2008. Program The ICLEI Local Action Summit aims to accomplish three critical goals: 1. Provide an opportunity for local government leaders and representatives from key community sectors to build on local government strengths and address challenges created by climate change. 2. Showcase achievements of cities, towns and counties that are cutting global warming pollution and creating benefits for their communities 3. Provide training and tools to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and inspire local residents and entities to engage in local efforts to protect the global climate. Summit Format The ICLEI Local Action Summit will kick off on Tuesday, May 13 with a Welcome Reception. Full sessions will commence on Wednesday, May 14 and conclude at noon on Friday, May 16. The summit will include plenary presentations, break-out sessions and discussions, ICLEI methodology exercises, and two "Green" facility tours in Albuquerque. The Summit will also host a "Green Marketplace." The Green Marketplace is an exhibition for companies and organizations to showcase their climate protection products and solutions.
