Consider Mayor Lockhart's request to commission a
commemorative inscription in memory of former Vice Mayor Dave
Durton.
FINANCIAL STATEMENT:
Sufficient funds are available in the Council's Community
Promotions Budget to accommodate the $100 expenditure.
DESCRIPTION: As a long time Dublin resident and community volunteer, Dave
Burton was elected to serve on Dublin's first City Council and was sworn into oflice at the City of
Dublin's Incorporation Council meeting on February 1, 1982. During his service on Dublin's originating
City Council, Councilmember Burton helped to create the City's framework and pave the road for
Dublin's successful future. Dave Burton was rc-elccted to serve a 4-year teDll on the Dublin City Council
in 1990, and was again re-elected in 1994. During his eight-year tenure, Dave Burton served as Vice
Mayor for six of those years. Vice Mayor Burton retired from the City Council in December 1998, and
continued his dedicated service to the City by volunteering countless hours of community service with
such devotion that he was recognized as "2003 Citizen of the Year" by the Dublin City Council. On
August 18, 2005, fODller Vice Mayor Burton passed away.
As a mark of respect and remembrance, Mayor Lockhart is requesting that the City Council consider
commissioning a commemorative inscription in memory offoDller Vice Mayor Dave Burton. The
inscription, which would cost $100, would be engraved on a concrete bench leading up to the Public
Safety Memorial located in the courtyard ofthe Civic Center.
