Dates for Senior Center Grand Opening Events

Schedule the Gala Banquet on August 4, and the Ribbon Cutting and
Open House on August 6, or provide Staff with alternate dates.
RECOMMENDATION:

None
DESCRIPTION: On May 3, 2005, the City Council received a presentation about the
preliminary event plans for the grand opening of the new Dublin Sen.iOT Center. The Council directed
Staff to move forward with planning and report back for approval of event dates once a firm date for the
completion of construction had been established.
Construction of the new Dublin Senior Center is nearing completion. Thc Contractor estimates the
building will be substantially complete by mid-June. Based on that schedule, Staff has developed a
transition plan to prepare for the opening of the new facility. Staff anticipatcs closing thc cxisting Senior
Center on July 15 and opening the new facility for operations on August 8. During the three-week
closure, Staff will be packing, moving and organizing supplies and equipment.
Staff recommends scheduling the Gala Banquet for Thursday, August 4 from 5:30 to 10:00 P.M. The
official Ribbon Cutting and Open House would be held two-days later on Saturday, August 6, from II :00
A.M. to 3:00 P.M. Staff has reviewed local event calendars for the Tri-Valley and it does not appear therc
are any significant conflicts.
It is anticipated the senior housing, Wicklow Square, will also open this summer. Staff has notified Eden
Housing of thc tcntative datcs for thc Ribbon Cutting and Open House to determine if Edcn plans to
conduct an Open House the same day, or have a table at the City's event to promote their services.
RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends that the City Council schedule the Gala Banquet on August 4, and the Ribbon Cutting
and Open House on August 6, or provide Staff with alternate dates.
