FINANCIAL STATEMENT; Sufficient funds are included in the Fiscal Year 2004-2005 Budgct. Other funds and in-kind donations will be provided by the following organizations: Waste Managcment, ANG Newspapers, Dub1in Lion's Club, Dublin/San Ramon Women's Club, DSRSD, Dublin Chamber of Commercc and Citilinks. DESCRIPTION: Dublin Pridc Week is an annual event, which seeks to promote a positive image for the City of Dublin. The overarching objective for Dublin Pride Week is to seek ways to engage individuals and/or groups in action based activities to help improve the community. This year, Dublin Pride Wcck is scheduled to start on Saturday, April 161h , and wi11 conclude on Saturday, Apri123"\ 2005_ As has been done in previous years, Pridc Week is scheduled to coincide with Earth Weck to recognize shared goals. The 2005 Dublin Pride Committee seeks to build on the success ofprcvious Dublin Pride Week events by engaging diverse community groups and individuals in the planning process. The attached brochure (Attachment I) and informational flyers utilize this branding logo with the 2005 slogan "Planet Dublin!" The slogan is an effort to recognize Dublin's contribution to the global community and encourages people to work to improve our world through environmental awarcness and volunteerism as supported by the Dublin Pride Week activities. The proposed 2005 Dublin Pride Activities are as follows: Poster Contest: The poster contest has been a Dublin Pride Week tradition for many years. The Dublin San Ramon Women's Club has again volunteered to organize and manage the contest. The Poster Contest is open to all Dublin students grades K-12. Winning artwork will be printed in the Tri-ValIeyHerald and displayed at the Civic Center. Awards will be handed out at a Dublin City Council Meeting. School Giveaways: Dublin Pride promotional items will be given to each child that attends school in Dublin. This year's items include recycled content pens for all school aged children and environmental educational coloring and activity books. Community Blood Drive: Every Spring, the American Red Cross attempts to build a large reservc of blood due to an expected drop- offin the swnmer attributed to donor vacations. The Blood Drive will take place in the Dublin Library Community Room on Monday, April 18, 2005 from 9:00-3:00 p.m. Orchid Sales: A hybrid orchid has been created by Frank Fordyce of Fordyce Orchids in Livermore, CA, to honor the City of Dublin, which he called home for 20 years. A limited number of this unique orchid, officially named "Pride of Dublin" will be offered for sale to the community. Attachment 2 is a flyer developed for the promotion and sale ofthe orchid. Canned Food Drive: Collection bins will be set-up at the Dublin Civic Center and Library to collect non-perishable items throughout Dublin Pride Week. Community groups will also be collecting canned food during the week. Electronic Waste & Household Hazardous Waste Collection: Dublin residents will bc allowed to drop-off electronic and/or houschold hazardous waste free of charge. The event will be held at 5601 Arnold Drive (comcr of Arnold and Central) on April 23cd. An announcement with reservation information (Attachment 4) will be mailed to all residents in March. c? 0:0 t "Volunteer Dav" Projects Volunteer Day is scheduled for Saturday April 16th and will conclude with a free BBQ at Emerald Glen Park provided by thc Dublin Lion's Club. All Volunteers will also receive a free "2005 Dublin Pride Week" t-shirt. Volunteer Day projects include the following: Senior Assistance Projects: Volunteers will be helping elderly citizens take care of home maintenance projects such as painting, yard work, washing windows, etc. School Improvement Projects: Volunteers will choose from designated school beautification projects. Activities may include painting, repairs, cleaning etc. Guided Nature Walk; Following the Voluntccr Day activities on Saturday April 16th, a local park ranger will lead a nature walk along the newly paved Tassajara Creek Trail exploring the creek's diverse plant and animal life. A flyer is included as Attachment 2 with additional information about the walk. PUBLIC OUTREACH: The success of Dublin Pride Week is largely dependent on the outreach campaign developed to increase the community's awareness and participation in the activities and volunteer opportunities. To that end, the Committee has focused on improving this year's public outreach efforts. o Website - www.dublinprideweek.com. The website was developed by Citilinks, as a way for participants to obtain up-to-date information on the various activitics and volunteer opportunities surrounding Dublin Pride Week. The website also includes a place for volunteers to sign up to participate in any of the events. The website is highlighted on all other outreach materials listed below. o Promotional posters- Dublin Police and the Dublin Chamber of Commerce will distribute posters that have been designed and printed by ANG Ncwspapers to area businesses and schools. o Newsletters- Announcements will appear in school newsletters, City's merchant newsletter, Chamber of Commerce newsletter, and DSRSD newsletter. o Press releases wj]] be sent to area newspapers. o CTV Video "Spots" to appear on cable channel 30 (Partially funded by Dublin Chamber ofCommcrce). o Brochure- Dublin Pride Week brochure (Attachment I) will be distributed to all community and faith based organizations in the City and placed at strategic locations throughout the City. CJ Flyers - These will be sent along with other outreach materials and also be sent to targeted audiences.
