THE DUBLIN RELAY FOR LIFE WEEK
lVFIEREAS, cancer is the second leading cause if death in the United States; and
WHEREAS, one in flur deaths in the United States is from cancer; and
WHEREAS, an estimated 556,500 Americans are ~'Pected to die from cancer in 2004, more than 1,500 per~; and
lVFIEREA5, a prqjected 138,000 CalifOrnians who are cummtfy living will deve/op cancer this )'ea1;' and
WHEREAS, an estimated 5,880 new cases if cancer will be diagnosed in Alameda County alone this year; and
WHEREAS, the American Cancer S oeiety is the nationwide community-based health organization dedicated to eliminating cancer as a mf!Jor
health problem; and
WHEREAS, the ReI~J' For ufe is the American Cancer S oeie!;' s signature event and means lry which the otganization accomplishes its'
mission; and
WHEREAS, Dublin has the pleasure if hosting its seventh Relay For Life on June 26 & 27, 2004, rf which there are nearlY 4,200
evmts nationwide, to honor cancer suroitlOrs, educate the general public about the importance if earlY detection and prevention rf cancer, and raise
funds in the fight agaim1 cancer.
