The December 6, 2017 Special Meeting of the Youth Advisory Committee was called to order at
7:00 PM at the Dublin Senior Center by Chair Liu.
PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE
The Pledge of Allegiance was recited by the Commission, Staff and those present.
ROLL CALL
Committee Members (CM) Present: Brakeman, Bray, Dhillon, Furtado, Goel, Huang, Kolan, Liu,
Matheny, Mitr, Nuruddin, Sharma, Tran, Yao Xiao
Committee Members Absent: Padakandla, Peram
Liaison Present: Butler, Parks and Community Services Commission Liaison
Staff Present: McPherson, Dublin Police Officer Blaylock
ORAL COMMUNICATIONS
3.1 Public Comments – Dublin High School Art Club President, Audrey Shi, offered
to create a live mural during the Dublin Benefit Concert on Sunday, April 8, 2018.
Public Information Officer for the Bay Area Air Quality Management District, Raquel
Trinidad, informed Committee Members on the Youth for the Environment and
Sustainability Conference on Saturday, February 24, 2018 in Oakland.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
4.1 Minutes of the November 15, 2017 Special Meeting
On a motion by CM Liu, seconded by CM Mitr, and by a vote of 14-0-0, with Committee
Members Padakandla and Peram absent, the Youth Advisory Committee voted to approve the
minutes of the Special Meeting of November 15, 2017, as presented.
WRITTEN COMMUNICATIONS – None.
UNFINISHED BUSINESS – None.
NEW BUSINESS
7.1 Youth Advisory Committee Mini Grant Program Application Presentations
Recreation Supervisor, Lisa McPherson, presented the Staff Report and informed Committee
Members that two organizations, Aisle Pro and Dublin Field Hockey Club, selected to present
declined due to lack of information to present. The Youth Advisory Committee received and
rated six Youth Advisory Committee Mini Grant applicant presentations from Dublin High Future
Business Leaders of America, Dublin High Key Club, Dublin High One Globe Club, Dublin High
Plushies Aimed to Comfort Hearts (P.A.T.C.H) Club, Dublin High Teens Unite for Education,
and Quarry Lane’s Environmental Club. Student representatives of the organizations and clubs
were accompanied by an adult sponsor and provided a five-minute presentation regarding their
YAC Minutes – December 7, 2016 – Page 2 of 2
grant funding request. Staff informed presenters that they were invited to stay for the duration of
the meeting to observe the Advisory Committee’s discussion and decision on grant funding
recommendations.
ACTION
On a motion by CM Matheny, seconded by CM Bray, and by a vote of 13-0-0, with Committee
Members Padakandla and Peram absent, the Youth Advisory Committee voted to fund Dublin
High Future Business Leaders of America $200, Dublin High Key Club $300, Dublin High One
Globe Club $100, Dublin High Plushies Aimed to Comfort Hearts (P.A.T.C.H) Club $500, Dublin
High Teens Unite for Education $300, and Quarry Lane’s Environmental Club $200. Advisory
Committee Member Sharma was not present at the time of the vote.
Staff stated they will contact each organization or club regarding their rewarded grant funds by
Friday, December 8, 2017, and that each organization will be requested to provide a letter
indicating how the grant funds were used and if goals were m et.
OTHER BUSINESS
The Advisory Committee Members provided brief reports on meetings attended over the past
month and upcoming events.
ADJOURNMENT
Being no further business, the meeting adjourned at 9:01 PM.
