Senior Center Winter 2018 Quarterly Report

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:
The Senior Center Advisory Committee will receive the Senior Center Winter Quarterly
Report covering the months of December 2017 through February 2018.
STAFF RECOMMENDATION:
Receive the report.
FINANCIAL IMPACT:
None.
DESCRIPTION:
The Dublin Senior Center offers activities and events that promote healthy living for
seniors, and the opportunity to build new friendships through recreation. The following is
a summary of the 2018 winter quarter:
The Senior Center now has a visitor counting device at the entrance to the facility,
which provides a more accurate picture of daily attendance. The attendance numbers
for 2017 and prior years shown above were much higher in reality than reported, as
Staff had not been tallying weekend and evening attendance.
When compared to the previous winter quarter, volunteer hours and participation
numbers decreased, as a few key front desk volunteers and volunteer instructors were

on leave. Staff expects these numbers to increase in the future with the return of these
volunteers.
The daily lunch program served 1,548 lunches. Programs at the Senior Center that
continue to show large participation numbers were The Line Dance classes, Bridge,
Ping-Pong, and the Melody Minstrels Jam Sessions.
The following events and tours occurred during the winter:
December
On Monday, December 4, 2017, staff of the Senior Support Program of
the Tri-Valley provided free health screenings for seniors.
On Friday, December 8, 2017, the Senior Center hosted its annual Holiday
Dance Escape event. Participants enjoyed, refreshments, live music from Lady K
and the Kings of Swing, and dancing.
On Wednesday, December 20, 2017 and Thursday, December 21, 2017,
Connect Hearing provided free hearing screenings and hearing aid
cleaning/repair for participants of the Senior Center.
February
On Tuesday, February 6, 2018, Alameda County Public Health hosted a
Diabetes Support Group at the Senior Center.
On Saturday, February 10, 2018, Travelers took a trip to the California Academy
of Sciences in San Francisco.
On Saturday, February 10, 2018, the Dublin Senior Foundation hosted a
Valentine’s Day BINGO Fling event where participants enjoyed a catered lunch,
live entertainment, and BINGO.
On Thursday, February 22, 2018, staff members of the Senior Support Program
of the Tri-Valley provided a free workshop on Finding Wellness (Brain Health).
New Activities Introduced
On Thursday, January 4, 2018, a new Yoga teacher was introduced and will be
offering a beginner’s yoga and an adaptive yoga for participants of the Senior
Center.
