SUBJECT: Grand Opening of the New Dublin Senior Center

FINANCIAL STATEMENT: None
DESCRIPTION: The Center Staff is planning and preparing for the Gala Banquet and
Open House events to celebrate the grand opening of the new Dublin Senior Center. The Gala Banquet
will be held on Thursday, August 4, and the Open House on Saturday, August 6, 2005.
GALA BANQUET EVENT
Invitations to the Gala Banquet were sent out the week of June 27. A maximum of 248 tickets will be
sold at the Parks and Community Services Department at Civic Plaza and are priced as follows:
Senior, 55 years and older: $25 per person
Adults: 54 and younger: $45 per person or$80 per couple
Individuals may request to sit in a group of eight by purchasing their tickets at the same time. Invitations
were mailed five weeks prior to the event. The existing Senior Center will also sell tickets up until
Friday, July 15. The deadline to purchase tickets is July 25.
Valley Catering of Dublin will provide full service catering and bar service for the.Gala Banquet event.
The details of the menu and specifics will be announced as soon as they are formalized.
RIBBON CUTTING AND OPEN HOUSE
The Open House on Saturday will be a free event and will include a Walk, a Ribbon Cutting, an Art
Exhibit, and a Health and Information Fair. The theme will be "A Celebration of Age — Connecting the
Mind, Body and Spirit." Attendees led by the Mayor and City Council will start the day at 10:30 a.m. by
walking from the existing Senior Center to the new Senior Center. 'The Ribbon-Cutting will begin at
11:00 a.m. The Art Exhibit and a "Health & Information Fair" will be open until 3:00 p.m. Artwork of
the senior community will be featured in the art room. The Health and Information Fair will feature
several senior providers from the Tri Valley and Alameda County. Entertainment and demonstrations
will be held in the main hall. Health and blood pressure screenings will be scheduled in the consultation
room and demonstrations will occupy the computer lab.
RECOMMENDATION
The Staff recommends that the Committee receive the report and provide input.
