HomeMy WebLinkAbout7.1 Location of SCAC Meetings CITY OF DUBLIN DUBLIN SENIOR CENTER ADVISORY COMMITTEE AGENDA STATEMENT MEETING DATE:NOVEMBER 3, 2005 SUBJECT: Location of the Senior Center Advisory Committee Meetings ATTACHMENTS: None RECOMMENDATION: Receive report FINANCIAL STATEMENT: None DESCRIPTION: The Dublin Senior Center Advisory Committee currently meets in the Council Chambers at the Dublin Civic Center. The Committee requested that Staff report back on the possibility of moving the Committee's meetings to the new Senior Center. After reviewing the issue, Staff recommends the meetings continue to be conducted at the Dublin Senior Center. The Council Chambers is an ideal location for the Committee to conduct public meetings. The audience is better able to address the Committee in a room that is designed to conduct public hearings. The Council Chambers also has a built-in audio visual system that provides sound amplification and records the meetings. Staff and those making presentations also have access to the visual-aid equipment for making professional presentations that better explain issues and projects for the Committee. If the meetings were moved to the Senior Center they would have to be conducted in the Ballroom as it will be the only room with built-in audio visual equipment, microphones and recording equipment. However the Ballroom is booked for a significant portion of the week. The space will also be needed to add additional senior programs in the future. Tying up the largest room in the facility for a monthly meeting would preclude its use for classes and programs that usually meet on a weekly basis. If the meetings were held in the Meeting Room, it would require additional Staff time to setup and takedown the room to provide a dais for the Committee Members and theater seating for members of the public. It would also take additional Staff time to setup and takedown the audio visual equipment. One of the advantages of conducting the meetings at the Senior Center would be that it could promote more attendance by facility patrons. However for the many years that the meetings were conducted at the old Senior Center there was no more participation than when the meetings have been held at the Civic Center. COPIES TO: ITEM NO. 7.1 G:\SRCTRADVCMTE\Statements\2005\11-05 Change in meeting location.doc Staff is recommending the meetings continue to be regularly scheduled at the Civic Center. However if an item is going to be considered by the Committee that may be of significant interest to facility patrons, then that particular meeting could be rescheduled at the Senior Center. RECOMMENDATION Staff recommends the Committee receive the report. Page 2 of 2
