HomeMy WebLinkAbout6.1 Step Out for Senior Centers Events - 1 G��OF DU� 1 1/ 19 �—��—i,� 1sz � AGENDA STATEMENT �� �� SENIOR CENTER ADVISORY COMMITTEE �IFO0 MEETING DATE: May 4, 2006 SUBJECT: Step Out for Senior Centers Event Report Prepared by Anna Hudson, Recreation Coordinator ATTACHMENTS: None RECOMMENDATION: Receive report FINANCIAL STATEMENT: None DESCRIPTION: The 5th Annual "Step Out for Senior Centers" event will be on Saturday, May 20, 2006 from 8:30 A.M. to 2:30 P.M. Staff will hold an Orientation Meeting for all the Advisory Committee Hosts on Tuesday, May 16, at 1:00 P.M., and for all the other volunteers on Thursday, May 18 at 1:00 P.M. Following are updates on the various event components and plans. 1. The May issue of the Dublin Doings newsletter, which is sent to over 800 supporters, featured information about the event. Over 400 flyers will be distributed by the Dublin Library to their mailing list. As another form of marketing, Staff will be one of several speakers attending the Dublin Library's special event to celebrate Older Americans Month on Wednesday, May 10. Other publicity includes press releases, articles, and promotion on Community TV Channel 30. 2. Staff continues to solicit for donations. Over $600 and refreshments will come from commercial vendors participating in the Information and Resources Fair. 3. For the walk: o The t-shirts printed by Select Imaging have been completed and ready for distribution. o The City's Jazzercise Instructor Deborah Richmond has confirmed her participation. o Staff will be scheduled to host the walk. o Staff has met with Rose Macias of the Dublin Police Department to discuss the walk route and to Police assistance. o Staff is researching the possibility of having a drum core or a small band lead the walk. 4. The Breakfast o Staff plans to meet with CM Jim McCuen to discuss the details of the breakfast. o The Dublin Historic Preservation Association will be the servers for the breakfast. o The Alameda County Fire Department has agreed to help at the breakfast. Staff met with CM Wood to discuss the Information and Resources Fair. CM Wood will help to contact the vendors who will be participating in the Fair. Lunch will be provided for the vendors and the Conference room will serve as a break area for the vendors to eat lunch. 7. Staff plans to offer on-going refreshments for the patrons who visit. Volunteers will be scheduled to replenish the refreshments. 8. Art Show o Staff will give a brief overview of the Art Exhibit and entries received. o Staff plans to meet with CM Barbara Gifford to discuss the details of the Art Exhibit. 9. Staff has met with Dublin Librarian Lee Jouthas regarding the main workshop "Connecting with Your Inner Spirit". Ms. Jouthas will be in charge of the speaker and workshop. 10. Several workshops have been scheduled including o The City's Instructor Valentin will conduct the Pilates workshop. o Fred Turner will host the Laugh Workshop. o Deepra Abraham of the Be Well Institute will introduce Qi gong and Holistic Health. o Yoga and Meditation by Yogi Surjit o Spirit Clay by Nan LaTorres RECOMMENDATION Staff recommends that the Advisory Committee receive the report. • 2 of 2
