DESCRIPTION In 1988, the Easter Egg Hunt was held at the Dublin
Sports Grounds and consisted of four hunts, each for a separate age group
(2-4 years, 5-7 years, 8-10 years and 11-12 years). The event was well
attended with approximately 600 participants and 350 spectators.
In 1989, a Breakfast With the Bunny was added to the event with the egg hunt
taking place afterwards. A separate egg hunt was held shortly after the
first hunt for those participants who did not want to attend the Breakfast.
Because of the tremendous amount of rain two days prior to the event, both
egg hunts were cancelled. Instead, participants were given bags of candy
and goodies, as well as the chance to have a photos taken with the bunny.
The Egg Hunt for 1990 is scheduled for Saturday, April 15. Staff proposes
that the breakfast be discontinued and that the event consist of an egg hunt
only. The hunt would be divided into three age groups; 3-5 years, 6-8
years; 9-10 years and conducted in 15 minute intervals. Participants would.
hunt for plastic eggs which they would take to the prize table and exchange
for one bag of "goodies". This would ensure that each participant received
an equal amount. Special silver and gold eggs would be distributed in each
hunt area and exchanged for "special prizes". Pre -registration for this
event would be required and participants would be charged $1.00 per person.
Staff proposes that the egg hunt be held at one of two locations, Kolb Park
or the Dublin Sports Grounds. The Dublin Sports Grounds is bigger and
offers better parking. Kolb Park is big enough for a moderately sized egg
hunt and offers limited parking. However, this could discourage people from
"dropping in" to participate on the day of the event. There is less wind
and noise at Kolb Park, as well as more attractive play equipment for the
children.
Staff requests the Commissions input in order to proceed with the planning
of this special event.
