The February 10, 1998 meeting of the Youth Advisory Committee was called to order at 7:34
p.m.at the Senior Center,Dublin California,by Recreation Coordinator Wierschem.
Pledge of Allegiance
Pledge of Allegiance was led by Teen Recreation Specialist Goss
Roll Call
Committee Members Present: Arcuri,Brown,Chapman, Cooper, Garren,Gill,Kaur,
Pedersen,Ross,Yniguez, Seals,Goss,Wierschem
Adult Adviors Present: Sugiyama,Bailey(Sub for Thuman), Seals
Staff Present: Wierschem,Goss
Oral Communications-None
Approval of Minutes-
Committee member Chapman made a motion to approve the minutes of January 13, 1998.
Committee member Garren seconded the motion.

Unfinished Business-
Billiards Bash
Recreation Coordinator Wierschem reviewed description and asked Committee to discuss the
feasabilitiy of the event.
Committee member Chapman motioned for a sub-committee to check on date of event and check
with students to see if this is something that they want. Committee member Cooper seconded
the motion.. Committee Chair Garren appointed a sub-committee meet and asked that report
back. Committee member Chapman seconded the motion.
New Business
Youth Advisory Committee Elections
Recreation Coordinator Wierschem reported that the bylaws indicate that a Chair and Vice Chair
would be voted on by the Committee and would serve unitl August 1998 for this term and one
year there after. .
Recreation Coordinator Wierschem explained the duties of Chairpersons and opened up the
nominations.
Committee member Gill nominated Sasha Garren for Chairperson..
Committee member Arcuri nominated Betsy Chapman for Chairperson.
Both canidates accepted their nomination.

Committee member Gill claimed that they were all mature enough to vote by hands.
Committee member Arcuri expressed a concern of possibly having someone's feelings hurt, and
wanted to vote by ballot.
Committee member Garren recieved the majority of votes for Chair
Committee member Chapman recieved the majority of votes for Vice-Chair
Recreation Coordinator Wierschem explained Roberts Rules of Order and Garren took over the
meeting as Chairperson.
Random Acts of Kindness
Recreation Coordinator Wierschem explained how Commishioner Schmidt mentioned Random
Acts of Kindness Week. Opened to the Committee for discussion.
Commishioner Schmidt detailed out possible activities for Random Acts of Kindness Week
which include,Buses to Soup Kitchens, Care Packages to kids, and Toy Drive for kids with
police of fire departments.
Committee member Yniguez wants to really promote through the schools. Committee member
Garren wants to make an original poster for the event. Adult representative Seals asks if this
should be tied in with Dublin Pride Week at the schools. Student Parks Commishioner Schmidt
wants to do this event at St.Patrick's Day Festival.
Committee member Chapman explained that it is too close to Pride Week and Leadership is
taking their own week to do Random Acts of Kindness.
Committee member Chapman motioned for sub-committee to work with schools on Random
Acts of Kindness Week. Committee member Gill seconded the motion.
Committee member Garren asks about the sub-committee. The sub-committee consists of
Committee members Yniguez, Schmidt,Arcuri,Ross, and Rubert.

St. Patrick's Dav Celebration T-Shirt Sales
Committee member Garren brought up subject 7.3. Asked Staff to report on subject.
Recreation Coordinator Wierschem gives report and asks committee if this is an activity that
they would like to commit to.
Committee member Garren opens subject to committee.
Adult representative Seals inquires about past sales.
Committee member Chapman explained that she and committee member Cooper would not be
there, they are already committed and she was concerned about the number of shirts.
Committee member Yniguez has already committed and thought that there would be a loss of
money.
Committee member Pedersen agrees with committee member Yniguez.
Committee member Garren suggests that maybe not buy as many and possibly be able to wear in
advance for promotional.
Recreation Coordinator Wierschem exclaimed that they needed to make a decision before the
meeting was over.
Adult representative Sugiyama explained that most shirts are bought by people from other towns.
Committee member Garren wants incentive with the shirts.
Committee member Pedersen voices that he wants to work the Parade Route.
Committee member Gill makes a motion to invest $750 to sell T-Shirts. Committee member
Pedersen seconded the motion. Committee member Chapman abstained.
Adult representative Sugiyama asked the Trustees to pre sell shirts.
Committee member Yniguez said to sell shirts at school.
Teen Prosrams and Activities
Staff person Goss summaraized the results of the brainstorming of activities and programs to
address the top three teen issues. The Committee then partipcated in an activity that would help
the Committee mebers rank the activity catagories and activities for next fiscal year.
