FINANCIAL STATEMENT None
DESCRIPTION The City' s Recreation Department has recently
completed the Winter quarter of classes and programs . The Winter
quarter encompassed the months of January, February and March. During
this time 37 classes were offered, 8 trips were planned and 3 special
events were conducted. Over 1, 500 people participated in activities
sponsored by the Department. A brief summary of the activities offered
is shown below.
AFTERSCHOOL RECREATION PROGRAM
The Afterschool Recreation Program is offered at Murray and Nielsen
Schools, Monday through Friday from 2 : 00-5 : 00 p.m. The program is
designed for children grades 1-6 and is drop-in in nature with no fee
charged for participation. Children are supervised by three Recreation
Leaders and participate in games, arts and crafts, sports, theme days
and much more. The average daily attendance varies from 40-50 per day
at each site.
CO-SPONSORED PROGRAMS
The Recreation Department offers a number of programs in co-operation
with the neighboring departments of Livermore, Pleasanton and San Ramon.
This winter there were five trips offered cooperatively as well as a
Valley�Wide Flea Market and Garage Sale.
FACILITY UTILIZATION
The City of Dublin manages the Shannon Community Center. The Center
is utilized by the Recreation Department for staff offices, City spon-
sored classes and programs and is also available for rental by com-
munity groups and private individuals.
During the winter quarter the Center was utilized 260 of the hours
available which is up slightly from the past. quarters.
LEISURE ENRICHMENT CLASSES
During the Winter quarter there were 689 people registered in classes
sponsored by the Recreation Department. This figure is up by about
100 from the same quarter last year but down slightly from the previous
quarter. Overall, 820 of the classes offered were conducted which
represents a sizeable increase over previous quarters .
PRESCHOOL PROGRAM
The Winter session of the preschool program was once again filled to
capacity. Three classes were offered with 20 children enrolled in each
class . The program is designed for preschoolers ages 2 years, 9 months
to 5 years.. Classes are held in the preschool room at Shannon Center.

• SPECIAL EVENTS
There were two special events offered during the Winter quarter. In
January the City celebrated it' s fifth birthday with ,a three day
celebration. The celebratiorecedtion, aebirthday partyhcomplete .
tests, a volunteer recognition P
with birthday cake for all, a 50 ' s dance and tours of the historical
Murray School .
The 4th Annual St. Patricks Day Celebration was held on March 14 . The
traditional St. Patricks Day Parade kicked off the days festivities
followed by a community celebration at Shannon Center. Over 350
people enjoyed the food, game and information booths sponsored by local
service clubs .
TEEN PROGRAMS
The Recreation Department in co-sponsorship with Livermore, Pleasanton
and San Ramon Recreation Departments conducted a ski trip to Kirk-
wood for 7th and 8th graders . Registration for the trip exceeded the
two bus maximum, although there were only three sign-ups from Dublin.
The trip was extremely successful and plans are underway for a spring
trip.
