YOUTHADVISORY COMMITTEE MEETING
MINUTES OF Wednesday, July 25, 2012
CALL TO ORDER
The July 25, 2012 meeting of the Youth Advisory Committee was called to order at 7:05 p.m. at the
Shannon Community Center by Chairperson Sung.

0, THE YOUTH ADVISORY COMMITTEE VOTED TO APPROVE THE MINUTES OF JULY
25, 2012 AS PRESENTED.

NEW BUSINESS
Presentation by the Alameda County Public Health Department
Alameda County Public Health Department staff-gave a presentation on the Surgeon General's report on
tobacco use among youth and young adults to the Youth Advisory Committee Members. The information
presented included preventable epidemic, why young people use tobacco, the tobacco industry and what
the public .can do to discourage youth from using tobacco. Staff of the Alameda County Public Health,
Department would like Youth Advisory Committee Members to support the County's Tobacco Control
Plan and invited the Youth Advisory Committee to sponsor an opinion poll/survey. This information
could be compiled by Alameda County Department of Public Health and presented back to the Youth
Advisory Committee with the results of the survey..
Youth Advisory Committee Work Plan for 2012-2013
Staff Member Henry Siu presented. the Youth Advisory Committee Work Plan for 2012-2013 to
Committee Members. Youth Advisory Committee Members Elkana, Kandahari, Bronkhorst and Nunez
expressed interested in working together to head up a subcommittee to research and establish guidelines
for the Youth Mini Grant program. All Youth Advisory Committee Members committed to participate in
City events which include Splatter, Dublin Tree Lighting Ceremony, Tri-Valley Teen Job Fair, St.
Patrick's Day Festival, and the "All America" Car Show. The Youth. Advisory Committee Members will
develop a list of various local businesses that may be interested in working together to conduct monthly
fundraisers to raise money for the Youth Fee Assistance Program. Youth Advisory Committee Members
will provide an update on their findings at the next scheduled Youth Advisory Committee meeting.
