HomeMy WebLinkAboutReso 135-11 Econ Dev Ad Hoc CommRESOLUTION NO. 135 - 11 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DUBLIN ********* ESTABLISHING AD-HOC COMMITTEES FOR ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT, SOCIAL MEDIA COMMUNICATIONS AND WINE REGION CONNECTIVITY AND ACCEPTING THE MAYOR'S APPOINTMENTS WHEREAS, on June 21, 2011, the City Council adopted the 2011-2012 Fiscal Year Budget and Strategic Plan; and WHEREAS, the Budget and Strategic Plan includes strategic and operational initiatives that require ongoing policy guidance and direction from the City Council in the following areas: Economic Development, Social Media and efforts to better connect Dublin to the Livermore Valley Wine Region; and WHEREAS, Staff proposed the establishment of three ad-hoc City Council committees to accomplish the initiatives; and WHEREAS, the three ad-hoc committees are described as follows: The Economic Development Committee is comprised of two City Council members. The purpose of this ad-hoc committee is to provide policy guidance and direction to staff regarding the implementation of the City Council's Fiscal Year 2011-2012 Economic Development Strategic and Operational Initiatives outlined in the Fiscal Year 2011-2012 Budget. The Committee will serve as a recommending body to the full City Council on matters relating to these initiatives until June 30, 2012. Staff support for this Committee will come from the City Manager's Office. The Social Media Communications Committee is an ad-hoc committee comprised of two City Council members. The purpose of this ad-hoc committee is to provide policy guidance and direction to staff regarding the implementation of a key Strategic Initiative to "Develop Social Media Policies." The scope of the ad-hoc committee will be limited to communications in the social media context and will include recommendations on a social media plan and related policies. The Committee will be a recommending body to the full City Council on social media communications matters and the Committee will cease at the conclusion of recommendations to the City Council. Staff support for this Committee will come from the City Manager's Office and the Parks and Community Services Department. The Wine Region Connectivity Committee is an ad-hoc committee comprised of two City Council members. The purpose of this committee is to provide policy guidance and direction to staff regarding an operational initiative to: "Explore ways Dublin can better connect to the Livermore Valley Wine Region, including Page 1 of 2 examination of zoning options.to allow grape growing, utilizing small business incentive program and explore membership with wine growers association." The Committee will serve as a recommending body to the full City Council on ways to connect to the overall wine region and the Committee will cease at the conclusion of recommendations to the City Council. Staff support for this Committee will come from the City Manager's Office. WHEREAS, the Economic Development, Social Media Communications and Wine Region Connectivity committees will meet monthly, assuming there are items for discussion; and WHEREAS, the City Council agreed with the recommendation of the Mayor regarding the City Council members to serve on these committees, as follows: • Economic Development Committee - Mayor Sbranti and Councilmember Biddle • Social Media Communications Committee - Vice Mayor Hart and Councilmember Hildenbrand • Wine Region Connectivity Committee - Mayor Sbranti and Councilmember Swalwell NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Dublin does hereby establish ad-hoc committees for Economic Development, Social Media Communications and Wine Region Connectivity and accept the Mayor's appointments.
