DESCRIPTION: The Parks and Community Services Department provides
activities to teens in the community that enhance their social, intellectual, physical and emotional
development. During the spring 2011 quarter, the Department offered the Student Union
program at Wells and Fallon Middle Schools, the Youth Fee Assistance Program and various
teen special events.
Student Union After School Program
Student Union is an after school recreation program designed specifically for middle school
students. It provides a safe place after school to engage in positive. An emphasis is placed on
academic enrichment and recreation/leisure enrichment. Student Union programs are held in two
eighteen-week sessions offering a variety of fun activities and the popular homework hub. Daily
activity themes include fitness, music, art, dance, games and free time. There were 71 students
registered for session II. Following is a summary of registration for spring 2011.

The decrease in attendance at Fallon Student Union from spring 2010 to 2011' could be attributed
to various factors. There are a variety of activities offered on the school site after school ends.
Activities such as chess club, year book, spring baseball (practice) and the school parent club
offers enrichment type classes. Students have more activities to choose to participate during the
after school hours.

Teen Events
A variety of events are offered for teens in the community. Four events were offered this spring
including a Talent Show, Teen Lock-in, Car Show Ice and Cream Social, and Teen Camp out.
The Talent Show, Teen Lock-in and Teen Campout were cancelled due to low enrollment.
The inaugural "Dublin Community Car Show" took place on Saturday, April 23, from 11:30 a.m.
to 2:00 p.m. at the Fallon Sports Park. This intergenerational community event was planned and
coordinated by members from the City's Youth and Senior Center Advisory Committees, in
cooperation with the Dublin Senior Center Foundation.
The event was a "show and shine" car show and had 43 cars registered. Cars ranging from a
1967 MG Midget to a 1949 Triumph Roadster were on display for the public to view. Over 150
community members attended the event throughout the day and a Disk Jockey played music
from all genres.
The Senior Foundation sold hotdogs, chips and drinks and Youth Advisory Committee Members
sold ice cream. Proceeds from the refreshment sales benefited Dublin's "Youth Fee Assistance
Program" and the "Dublin Senior Foundation".

Youth Fee Assistance Promram- "Dublin Cares"
The Dublin City Council adopted a youth fee assistance program. This program promotes access
to City recreation services for youth regardless of economic ability. The program provides
eligible Dublin youth financial assistance to participate in City sponsored recreation programs
and to have quality recreational experiences that may not be possible without assistance. City
youth recreation programs provide children with safe outlets for creativity, socialization, play,
exercise and learning.
