STAFF RECOMMENDATION: Present the proclamation. FINANCIAL IMPACT: None. DESCRIPTION: Hunger Action Month was launched in 2007 by Feeding America along with its national network of food banks to raise awareness of the hunger crisis in America. Residents are encouraged to get involved through volunteering, donating to food banks, and learning more about food insecurity in our community. STRATEGIC PLAN INITIATIVE: None. NOTICING REQUIREMENTS/PUBLIC OUTREACH: The City Council Agenda was posted. 8 Page 2 of 2 ATTACHMENTS: 1) Hunger Action Month Proclamation 9 Attachment 1 A PROCLAMATION OF THE CITY COUNCIL CITY OF DUBLIN, CALIFORNIA “Hunger Action Month” WHEREAS, hunger and food insecurity remain a serious and persistent challenge in communities across the United States, including here in the City of Dublin and the Tri-Valley, where thousands of individuals and families struggle to access the nutritious food they need to live healthy, active lives; and WHEREAS, each September, Feeding America and its national network of food banks join with communities across the country to observe Hunger Action Month, a time to raise awareness of the hunger crisis; and WHEREAS, food insecurity affects people of all ages and backgrounds, including children, working families, seniors, and veterans, and can be compounded by rising housing and living costs in our region; and WHEREAS, no one should have to choose between putting food on the table and paying for housing, health care, or other basic needs; and WHEREAS, ensuring access to adequate nutrition is essential to the health, dignity, and well-being of every member of our community; and WHEREAS, the City of Dublin recognizes the importance of working together to ensure that all members of the community have access to sufficient, nutritious food and opportunities to thrive; and WHEREAS, residents are encouraged to participate in Hunger Action Month by volunteering, donating, supporting local hunger-relief organizations, and learning more about food insecurity in our community. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Dublin does hereby proclaim the month of September 2026 as “Hunger Action Month” in the City of Dublin and encourages the community to join in raising awareness and taking meaningful action to help end hunger.
