STAFF RECOMMENDATION: Recognize the Dublin Climate Challenge volunteers. FINANCIAL IMPACT: None. DESCRIPTION: Background On September 15, 2020 the City Council adopted the City of Dublin Climate Action Plan (CAP) 2030 and Beyond (Resolution No. 100-20). CAP 2030 includes five strategies and 22 measures intended to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 40% below 1990 levels by 2030 and to put the City on the path to reaching carbon neutrality by 2045. Achieving carbon neutrality will require a communitywide effort and CAP 2030 includes actions in which every part of the community can participate. In February 2024 the City entered into an agreement with Bright Action Communities to create an online platform, the Dublin Climate Challenge, to engage the Dublin community with CAP 2030. The Dublin Climate Challenge platform allows individuals, households, and community groups to learn about and commit to various sustainable actions to lower their GHG emissions and impact on climate change. Actions on the platform address energy use, transportation, waste, and water. The actions range from simple things like switching to reusable foodware to larger investments such as installing solar panels. Renter friendly and youth-oriented actions 7 Page 2 of 3 are also included. Each action on the platform provides users with information, tips, and resources. The platform then provides individual, neighborhood, and citywide level data on actions taken, cost savings, emissions reduced, and gallons of water saved based on completed actions. Outreach for the platform was initiated after the launch in July 2024. Dublin Climate Challenge Volunteer Recognition While community engagement with the Dublin Climate Challenge has increased modestly since the program’s launch, significant progress was made in the first quarter of 2026 when robust volunteer activity increased the visibility of the platform. Contributions from volunteers during Dublin Elementary School’s Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics (STEAM) Night, Frederiksen Elementary School’s Pi Night, and Frederiksen Elementary School’s Climate Challenge resulted in engagement with approximately 500 community members and families. Thanks to the effort of the volunteers below, 130 households have registered on the platform, over 700 actions have been completed, and 19 tons of CO₂ emissions have been saved.
