Subject: Betlen Drive, DUblin Tract 5588--Acoustical Consultinq
CMS Project No: 87-112
Dear Mr. Steele:
At your request, we are oommentinq on the use of a solid wood
fence versus a masonry wall as a noise barrier for the subject
project.
A noise b~rrier works by blocking the direct sound path between
the noise source and the receiver. In the case of walls and
fence., this requires a mininum surfaoe density of 3 pounds per
square foot and that the barrier be free of cracks or qaps.
These criteria can be met with either a solid wood fence or a
masonry wall.
An effective noise barrier can be constructed of 3/4-inch plywood
or Wood slate. The desiqn of the wood fence should not allow
cr~cks or gaps. All intersections and overlaps should be nailed
and sealed with waterproof qlue.
This concludes our discussion of the subject project. If you
have any questions, please feel free to oall.
Yours truly,
~~.~

RE: NORTHWOOD SQUARE TOWNHOMES ASSOCIATION
Trash Disposal Service
Dear Mr. Cortney:
Thank you for your inquiry regarding the trash disposal services at
the above referenced Association.
Northwood Square uti I izes individual trash pick-up. Professional
Management Associates currently manages over 7,000 units in the South-
ern Cal ifornia area and we have found this method vastly superior to
the common trash bin approach.
The owners package their trash in a much more conscientious manner
when they are responsible for individual trash cans. The bins invite
the practice of tossing their garbage in the general vicinity and need
to be constantly sprayed and cleaned by the associations.
We have not had any problems with trash cans not being promptly re-
moved and stored by owners.
Other associations we maintain uti I ize the individual trash disposal
approach and we find ita super i or method in a II ins tances to the
common trash bin method. I mention Northwood Square only because I
understand it is a similar product to the type you are currently
planning to bui Id in Northern Cal ifornia.
Please feel free to contact me if I can be of any further assistance.
