Mayor’s Appointment to Heritage and Cultural Arts Commission and
Senior Center Advisory Committee Unscheduled Vacancies

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:
The City Council will consider the Mayor’s appointments to fill an unscheduled vacancy on the
Heritage and Cultural Arts Commission and an unscheduled vacancy on the Senior Center
Advisory Committee.
STAFF RECOMMENDATION:
Confirm the Mayor’s appointment of Jackson Berg to the Heritage and Cultural Arts
Commission unscheduled vacancy for the remainder of a term ending December 2028 and
Michael Goldstein to the Senior Center Advisory Committee unscheduled vacancy for the
remainder of a term ending December 2026.
FINANCIAL IMPACT:
None.
DESCRIPTION:
On May 7, 2025, an unscheduled vacancy occurred on the Senior Center Advisory Committee
and on May 15, 2025, an unscheduled vacancy occurred on the Heritage and Cultural Arts
Commission. A notice seeking applications was posted on May 23, 2025, with a deadline of
June 13, 2025.
Heritage and Cultural Arts Commission
After reviewing applications from alternate Victoria Liu, Jackson Berg, Paul Chang, Shubha
Kandukoori, Sachin Khatter, Salim Razawi, and Chandra Singh, Mayor Hu selected Jackson
Berg to fill the vacancy.

Berry, Shubha Kandukoori, and Julia Nam, Mayor Hu selected Michael Goldstein to fill the
vacancy.

Heritage and Cultural Arts Commission
Application
The Heritage and Cultural Arts Commission is an advisory body to the City Council and City Staff. This Commission is made up of seven
members of the community who serve four-year staggered terms and one alternate serving two-year terms. The Commission considers and
makes recommendations to the City Council on historical, cultural, and artistic matters by: ensuring historical preservation of the Heritage
Center; generating public input concerning the arts; and, reviewing arts contract proposals. The Commission may also review and make
recommendations regarding the City's budgets for arts programs, facilities, and the Heritage and Cultural Arts Long Range Plan for the
community. The Heritage and Cultural Arts Commission Bylaws and Rules of Procedure govern the meetings and activities of the Commission.
The Heritage and Cultural Arts Commission is part of the City’s Conflict of Interest Code, and if appointed, you will be required to fill out a
disclosure statement which identifies certain financial interest beginning with the immediate twelve-month period prior to your appointment
(FPPC Form 700) and attend Ethics Training.
The Heritage and Cultural Arts Commission Bylaws and Rules of Procedure govern the meetings and activities of the Commission.

practical way with community and Team together to do good contribution work. Thank You.

recommendations related to the operation and maintenance of an effective and efficient Senior Center for the residents of Dublin.
Senior Center Advisory Committee Bylaws and Rules of Procedure govern the meetings and activities.

Why are you interested in serving on the Senior Center Advisory Committee?
I am interested in serving on the Senior Center Advisory Committee because I am deeply committed to supporting and enhancing the well-
being of our senior community. My background as a Human Services Commissioner in Dublin and as a Resident Service Coordinator at SAHA

has given me firsthand experience in advocating for and meeting the needs of diverse populations, including seniors. I have a passion for
creating accessible and inclusive environments where seniors feel supported, engaged, and connected.
I believe that my skills in community outreach, case management, and collaboration with local organizations make me well-suited to
contribute meaningfully to the Committee's work. By serving on this Committee, I hope to ensure that our senior residents have access to
vital resources, social opportunities, and programs that enhance their quality of life. Additionally, I am committed to listening to and
addressing the needs of our seniors with compassion, drawing on my experience in developing and implementing community-based
solutions.

What is your impression of the programs and services offered for seniors through the Dublin Senior Center?
My impression of the programs and services offered through the Dublin Senior Center is that they are thoughtfully designed to promote the
physical, emotional, and social well-being of our senior community. The variety of activities—ranging from health and wellness classes to
social events and educational workshops—demonstrates a genuine commitment to meeting the diverse needs and interests of seniors.
From what I’ve observed, the Senior Center does an excellent job of fostering a sense of community and inclusion, providing a welcoming
space where seniors can connect, stay active, and continue learning. I’m particularly impressed by the emphasis on lifelong learning and the
accessible opportunities for social engagement, which are essential in combatting isolation and enhancing overall quality of life.
Given my experience in community services and advocacy, I would love to build on these strengths and work collaboratively to identify any
areas for further enhancement. My goal would be to ensure that all seniors, regardless of their background or needs, can fully benefit from
the rich programs the Dublin Senior Center provides.

Dublin Football (fighting Irish) award event and Asian Pacific Islander American Public Affairs (APAPA) ceremony event

What do you feel are some of the most pressing issues facing senior adults in the City of Dublin?
More affordable or free programs since a lot of seniors are on a fixed income.
