STAFF RECOMMENDATION: Present the Proclamation. FINANCIAL IMPACT: None. DESCRIPTION: The Lunar New Year, also known as the Spring Festival, marks the beginning of a new lunar calendar year. It is a 15-day celebration that includes family gatherings, festive meals, and cultural performances, which ends with the Lantern Festival. According to the Chinese zodiac cycle, 2025 is the Year of the Snake, which is characterized by wisdom, transformation, adaptability, and introspection. The Lunar New Year is celebrated by Asian American communities and others across the nation. STRATEGIC PLAN INITIATIVE: None. ATTACHMENTS: 1) Lunar New Year 2025 Proclamation Page 1 of 1 1 Attachment I A PROCLAMATION OF THE CITY COUNCIL CITY OF DUBLIN, CALIFORNL4 "Lunar New Year 2025" WHEREAS, the Lunar New Year, also known as the Spring Festival, is celebrated by millions around the world to mark the beginning of a new lunar calendar year, symbolizing renewal, hope, and the promise of prosperity and good fortune; and WHEREAS, 2025 is the Year of the Snake, the sixth animal in the i2-year Chinese Zodiac cycle, which is characterized by wisdom, transformation, adaptability, and introspection; and WHEREAS, the Lunar New Year is a i5-day celebration which starts on the second new moon after the winter solstice and falls between January 21 and February 19; and WHEREAS, it is marked by many traditions such as decorations, community and family gatherings, festive meals, and cultural performances that honor ancestry and the shared values of unity, respect and joy; and WHEREAS, the fifteenth and final day of the holiday is the Lantern Festival to mark the end of the New Year Celebration; and WHEREAS, the City of Dublin appreciates the many contributions of our Asian American communities, enhancing the fabric of our city's rich cultural diversity. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Dublin does hereby proclaim January 29, 2025 as the commencement of Lunar New Year 2025 in the City of Dublin and encourages citizens to join in the Lunar New Year celebrations.
